During the appointment

What happens during your first visit.

The appointment begins with the reason you booked. Your dentist then gathers the information needed to give you a useful assessment and a clear next step.
  1. 01

Start with the reason for your visit.

Your dentist asks what brought you in, what you would like help with, and whether anything feels urgent or uncomfortable.
  2. 02

Review your health and dental history.

If we send you a Dentally Portal link, use it to complete your medical history before the appointment. The portal link is for your forms, not for booking the appointment. If no link is sent, arrive about 10 minutes early and the team will help.
  3. 03

    Complete a thorough examination.

Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, jaw, and soft tissues. Digital X-rays may be recommended when they are needed to see areas that are not visible during the examination.
  4. 04

    Discuss the findings and options.

We explain what we found in plain language. If care is recommended, you receive the options, indicative costs, and a suggested sequence without pressure to decide immediately.
  5. 05

    Clean where clinically appropriate.

A clean can often be completed during a check-up and clean appointment. If gum treatment or another priority should come first, your dentist will explain why.

Before you arrive

Bring what you have. We can help with the rest.

A few details prepared in advance can save time. If something is unavailable, still come to the appointment and let the team know.

Useful to bring

Health, fund, and treatment information.

  • Health fund card, if applicable
  • Medicare or concession card, if relevant
  • A list of current medications and allergies
  • Referral letters or previous X-rays, if available
  • Questions or comfort preferences you want to discuss

Forms and costs

Complete forms before the visit, or arrive early.

If we send you a Dentally Portal link, it is for completing your medical history. Your appointment is booked separately. If no form link is sent, arrive about 10 minutes early and the team will help.

Check-up and clean appointments start from $220. Fees are indicative, and assessment determines the final treatment cost.

No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by phone. If another dentist or GP has given you a referral, bring it and we will include it in the assessment.
How long does a first appointment take?
Allow approximately 45 to 60 minutes for a comprehensive first visit. This gives time for the examination, any necessary X-rays, and a useful discussion of the findings and options.

That is common. We start with an assessment, explain what we find without judgement, and work through the priorities at a manageable pace.

Most new patients begin with a check-up and clean so the dentist can assess gum health, X-ray needs, and whether cleaning is appropriate that day. You can discuss every part of the visit before it begins.
