What age should my child first visit the dentist?
Ivy Dental welcomes children from around age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits may be brief and focus on meeting the team, counting teeth where possible, and becoming familiar with the clinic.
What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
The CDBS is a Medicare program that may provide up to $1,158 over 2 consecutive calendar years for eligible children aged 0 to 17. Eligibility is linked to Family Tax Benefit Part A or certain other government payments. The cap is indexed and depends on when the child's benefit period begins.
Does Ivy Dental bulk bill under the CDBS?
Yes. Planned CDBS-covered items are bulk billed at Ivy Dental while your child is eligible and the remaining Medicare balance is sufficient for those items. We check eligibility and available balance before treatment.
What if my child is worried about the dentist?
Tell us before the appointment. We can use simple language, show instruments before using them, agree on a pause signal, and keep the first visit focused on familiarity where clinically appropriate. We do not force treatment.
Does Ivy Dental offer sedation for children?
No. Ivy Dental does not provide sedation dentistry for children. If safe treatment requires sedation or specialist facilities, we can discuss referral to a paediatric dental specialist.
Does my child need a custom mouthguard for sport?
A custom mouthguard may be recommended for contact sport or activities with a risk of facial impact. We assess fit, dentition, and growth before recommending one.
