Children's dentistry at Ivy Dental, Brisbane. Planned CDBS-covered items are bulk billed at $0 out of pocket for eligible children while their remaining Medicare balance is sufficient. The CDBS may provide up to $1,158 over two consecutive calendar years.

Children's dentistry
Early visits can be simple and low pressure. We help children become familiar with the clinic, check developing teeth, and give parents practical guidance for care at home.
Familiarity before perfection. For some children, a successful first visit is meeting the team and letting us count a few teeth.

CDBS, clearly explained
CDBS is not automatic and it does not cover every service. We confirm eligibility, the remaining benefit, and whether each planned item is covered before treatment begins.
Child Dental Benefits Schedule
The CDBS may cover basic dental services for eligible children aged 0 to 17. Your child’s benefit period, eligibility, treatment needs, and remaining balance all matter.
Families can also check eligibility through a Medicare online account linked to myGov or call 132 011. The Services Australia rules apply.
Children's care
Recommendations depend on your child’s age, development, symptoms, and what they are comfortable completing safely.
Examination, cleaning where appropriate, fluoride guidance, and a check of growth, alignment, and hygiene.
Tooth-coloured restorations where suitable, with each step explained in age-appropriate language.
Protective material for deep grooves in selected back teeth when the risk of decay supports it.
Custom-fitted protection for contact sport, planned around developing teeth and fit.
Digital imaging only when it is clinically useful for decay, development, position, or injury.
Assessment for falls, chips, displaced teeth, or tooth pain, with urgency based on symptoms and injury.

The Ivy standard
Children are more likely to participate when the visit feels predictable. We use clear language, permission, and manageable steps.
We explain what we are about to do in words your child can understand.
Children can raise a hand or ask for a break when they need one.
If treatment needs sedation, specialist behaviour support, or complex paediatric care, we discuss referral.
The first visit
The appointment can still be valuable even if your child is not ready for every part of an examination or clean.
Your child can meet the team and become familiar with the room before we ask them to do anything.
We count teeth and check development only as far as your child can safely manage that day.
Parents receive a clear summary of findings, priorities, and anything that can wait.
We tailor brushing, fluoride toothpaste, diet, and recall advice to your child’s age and needs.
Your appointment
Tell us your child's age, the reason for the visit, whether they are nervous, and whether you would like us to check CDBS eligibility.
Honest expectations
A general dental appointment is not the right setting for every child or every procedure. We will explain when staged care or specialist support is safer.

Common questions
These are general answers. Advice and treatment depend on an individual assessment.
Ivy Dental welcomes children from around age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits may be brief and focus on meeting the team, counting teeth where possible, and becoming familiar with the clinic.
The CDBS is a Medicare program that may provide up to $1,158 over 2 consecutive calendar years for eligible children aged 0 to 17. Eligibility is linked to Family Tax Benefit Part A or certain other government payments. The cap is indexed and depends on when the child's benefit period begins.
Yes. Planned CDBS-covered items are bulk billed at Ivy Dental while your child is eligible and the remaining Medicare balance is sufficient for those items. We check eligibility and available balance before treatment.
Tell us before the appointment. We can use simple language, show instruments before using them, agree on a pause signal, and keep the first visit focused on familiarity where clinically appropriate. We do not force treatment.
No. Ivy Dental does not provide sedation dentistry for children. If safe treatment requires sedation or specialist facilities, we can discuss referral to a paediatric dental specialist.
A custom mouthguard may be recommended for contact sport or activities with a risk of facial impact. We assess fit, dentition, and growth before recommending one.
