The useful question is not how many trays you receive. It is what movement is planned, how your bite will be monitored, what is included if teeth do not track as simulated, and what retention costs later.
Complexity is confirmed from the proposed movement, not a label alone.

A 3D simulation communicates the proposed movement. It cannot guarantee an identical response, timeline, or result. Fixed braces or specialist care may be more suitable for some cases.

Why quotes differ
Complexity is more than crowding.
The quote should connect every extra stage or procedure to a movement or clinical risk in your plan.
Movement and bite
Rotation, root position, vertical movement, space closure, bite correction, and anchorage can increase complexity.
Attachments and IPR
Tooth-coloured attachments may be visible. Interproximal reduction removes a small amount of enamel and is irreversible.
Tracking and refinements
Teeth may not follow the simulation exactly. Extra stages can be needed to improve tracking or fine-tune the result.
Wear and monitoring
Twenty to twenty-two hours of wear, oral hygiene, attendance, and tray handling affect progress and treatment time.
After active treatment
Retention is a recurring responsibility.
Teeth can move after any orthodontic treatment. Retainers are included at completion, but they wear, can be lost, and need review or replacement over time.
Removable retainer
Replacement starts from $200 per arch. Timing varies with wear, damage, fit, and use.
Bonded wire
Full bonded wire replacement starts from $300 per arch. Repairs and suitability vary.
Dental maintenance

- Clean retainers and store them safely.

What determines the cost of aligner treatment?
The proposed tooth movements, bite complexity, number of stages, expected treatment duration, attachments, interproximal reduction, monitoring, and refinement needs all affect the plan. A low aligner count does not by itself make a case clinically simple.
Are retainers included?
Retainers are included in the Ivy treatment quote, along with planned refinement aligner sets and take-home whitening at the end of treatment. Future replacement retainers are separate and start from $200 per arch.
Does health insurance cover aligners?
Some extras policies contribute towards orthodontic treatment. Your fund determines eligibility, waiting periods, lifetime limits, and benefit amounts. Ivy can process eligible claims through HICAPS, but the fund confirms the rebate.
Can I pay for aligners in instalments?

Why is clinician-supervised treatment priced differently from mail-order aligners?
Clinician-supervised care includes diagnosis, records, bite and gum assessment, planned attachments or interproximal reduction, in-person monitoring, and management when teeth do not track as simulated. The scope and clinical oversight are not directly comparable.
