Dental Check-Up Cost in Brisbane: What to Expect (2026)

Ivy Dental check-up and clean pricing, what is included, appointment length, and how your clinic and health fund affect the gap.

5 min readGeneral information

A check-up and clean at Ivy Dental starts from $250, including bitewing X-rays when clinically indicated. This guide explains what that appointment covers, when extra costs may apply, and what to check with your health fund before you book.

What a standard check-up costs

Brisbane practices package appointments differently. Compare the total appointment fee and inclusions, rather than an examination fee on its own. These are Ivy's published starting prices.

What is included in a check-up

Ivy's new-patient check-up and clean appointments are allocated 50 to 60 minutes, depending on the dentist and clinic. Routine recall visits and other appointment types can have different lengths. The booking portal shows the allocation before you confirm.

Visual examination. Every tooth is inspected for signs of decay, cracks, wear, and failing restorations. Your dentist also examines your gums, tongue, cheeks, palate, and throat for any abnormalities.

Diagnostic X-rays. Bitewing X-rays can help assess areas between teeth and supporting bone. They are included when clinically indicated. An OPG or other imaging is arranged only when needed and quoted separately.

Gum assessment. Your dentist or hygienist checks the gum pockets around your teeth using a probe. Deeper pockets can indicate gum disease. This is one of the most important parts of the check-up and one of the reasons regular visits matter. See what to expect at your first Ivy visit for more appointment details.

Oral soft tissue examination. Your dentist checks areas such as the tongue, cheeks and palate and discusses anything that needs further assessment.

Bite and jaw assessment. Your dentist may check for signs of grinding (bruxism), jaw clicking, or bite issues that could be causing or contributing to tooth damage.

The clean: included or separate?

At Ivy, a professional clean is planned as part of the check-up and clean appointment, where clinically appropriate. The dentist first assesses your gum health and cleaning needs.

A scale removes hardened plaque (calculus) from above and below the gum line. A polish removes surface staining. Together, they leave the teeth smoother and easier to keep clean at home.

If gum treatment or another problem needs attention first, your dentist explains the recommended care, whether more time is needed, and any additional cost before proceeding.

Check your health-fund benefit before the visit

Choose the clinic with your fund in mind

Both Ivy clinics process eligible health-fund claims on site through HICAPS. The preferred-provider arrangements are different:

  • Everton Park: HCF preferred-provider clinic.
  • Nundah: Medibank preferred-provider clinic.

You can still use either clinic with another fund, but your rebate and gap may differ. Preferred-provider status does not guarantee a particular rebate or out-of-pocket cost.

Before your appointment:

  • Ask Ivy for the planned item numbers and fee estimate.
  • Ask your fund to confirm benefits for that clinic, including waiting periods and remaining limits.
  • Keep the appointment interval your dentist recommends for your health needs; a benefit reset alone does not determine when care is needed.

For current claiming and preferred-provider details, see health funds at Ivy Dental.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Children aged 0 to 17 who meet the eligibility criteria may be covered under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,158 in benefits over two calendar years for basic dental services including check-ups, cleans, fillings, and X-rays. At Ivy Dental, CDBS-covered items are bulk billed at $0 out of pocket while the remaining Medicare balance covers the planned treatment.

No health fund?

If you do not have private health insurance, a check-up and clean at Ivy Dental is still straightforward. We provide an itemised quote before treatment so you know the cost upfront. We also outline available payment options.

How often should you go

Six months is a common interval, but it is not right for everyone. Your dentist will recommend a schedule based on your oral health and risk factors. Regular checks can find concerns earlier, when treatment may be simpler; learn about crowns and restorative options if a tooth needs more extensive repair.

Some patients benefit from more frequent visits. Patients with gum disease, high decay risk, or complex restorations may be advised to come every three to four months. Your dentist will recommend a schedule based on your individual risk profile. Our general dentistry page explains how ongoing preventive care is planned.

What happens if you have not been in a while

If it has been a year or more since your last check-up, there is no judgement involved. Your dentist will complete a thorough assessment, identify any issues, and put together a plan. The longer it has been, the more likely there are small problems that are easier to address now than later.

At Ivy Dental, we see patients at our Everton Park and Nundah clinics 7 days a week. Call (07) 3266 7120 or book online to book your next check-up.
