What Invisalign and Spark have in common
Both systems use digital records, staged planning, and a series of custom aligners. Change intervals and wear instructions are prescribed for the case; a digital simulation is a plan, not a promise that teeth will track exactly as shown.
Either system may use attachments (small tooth-coloured shapes bonded to selected teeth). Daily wear is commonly extensive, but the exact schedule comes from the treating clinician. Adherence, biology, periodontal health, bite, and monitoring all affect progress.

Material differences
This is where the two systems diverge most clearly.
Invisalign uses SmartTrack, a multi-layer thermoplastic material Align Technology developed specifically for orthodontic aligners. SmartTrack was introduced in 2013 and has been refined since. It is designed to deliver consistent, gentle force and track teeth more predictably than earlier aligner plastics.
Spark uses TruGEN, a material developed by Ormco. TruGEN is also a multi-layer polymer, but Ormco claims it has higher clarity (less visible on teeth) and greater resistance to staining over the wear period. Spark aligners also have polished, scalloped edges designed to sit closer to the gum line for comfort.
Material and edge-design claims should be interpreted in context. Comfort, staining, fit, and tracking vary by patient, tray design, attachments, wear, and movement; neither brand can promise a more comfortable or more predictable result for every case.
Staining and clarity
Spark markets TruGEN as more stain-resistant than SmartTrack. Manufacturer and comparison claims should be interpreted in context; visible differences vary, and marketing does not establish a better clinical outcome.
For most patients, this is a marginal difference. You replace aligners every one to two weeks regardless. If staining bothers you, rinse your aligners after removing them and avoid wearing them while drinking anything other than water. That advice applies to both brands.
Treatment planning software
Invisalign uses ClinCheck, which has been refined over more than two decades. It has extensive features for staging tooth movements, setting up attachments, and managing complex cases. ClinCheck's database of past treatments is enormous, which helps the software predict outcomes.
Spark uses Approver, a newer platform. It offers similar 3D visualisation and treatment planning tools. Ormco has invested heavily in the software, and it is capable, but it has a smaller case database to draw from.
Your clinician uses this software to plan your treatment. A skilled clinician can achieve excellent results with either platform. The software is a tool. The treatment plan is the clinician's.
Clinical evidence and track record
Invisalign has a longer commercial history and a larger published evidence base. The relevance of any study still depends on the movements, patient selection, monitoring, comparator, follow-up, and outcome measured.
Spark has a shorter commercial history and a developing evidence base. A manufacturer's broader orthodontic experience or material claims do not replace case-specific diagnosis and clinical monitoring.
Either system may be considered for selected movements, while other cases may be better managed with fixed appliances or specialist care. Complexity cannot be classified from crowding alone, and a longer brand history does not make a digital prediction certain.

Both systems use tooth-coloured composite attachments to help aligners grip teeth and produce specific movements. The number and placement of attachments depend on your treatment plan, not the aligner brand.
Either system may use additional stages if teeth do not track as planned. Whether refinements are available, clinically required, or included in the fee depends on the product and written treatment plan.
After active treatment, retention is normally required because teeth can move over time. The appliance type and wear schedule are prescribed individually and need ongoing review.
